Monogenic inheritance Quiz

Monogenic inheritance quiz covers the basic knowledge and concept regarding monogenic inheritance. In addition, monogenic inheritance, also known as single-gene or Mendelian inheritance, is a fundamental concept in genetics where a trait is determined by a single gene. Thus single gene can exist in different forms, known as alleles, which are variations of the DNA sequence at a specific locus on a chromosome. These alleles pass from parents to offspring follows the principles established by Gregor Mendel in the 19th century, hence the term Mendelian inheritance. Inheritance pattern of monogenic trait includes, autosomal (both dominant and recessive) and X-linked (dominant and recessive). Furthermore, monogenic diseases are a key application of this concept, where mutations in a single gene trigger disorders . Such as, Cystic fibrosis, Huntington’s disease and sickle cell anemia are well-known examples of monogenic inheritance.

The aim of this quiz to assess our audience understanding of this important topic of fundamentals of genetics.
